Finding Stillness in the Season – Peaceful Aromas

Written By: Robin Lander

The holidays can be time of joy and connection, but they’re often packed with gatherings, errands, and a to-do list that never seems to end. The flurry of excitement and demands may leave us feeling scattered, overstimulated, and depleted. When it all begins to feel like too much, aromatherapy offers a gentle way to feel supported and find the stillness within.

As formulators, we know that scent has the remarkable ability to shift energy in an instant. This season, we can lean on essential oils that help us slow our pace, take a breath, and return to a calm, grounded center. Below are seven beautiful essential oils to inspire self-care practices and formulations that promote balance, serenity, and mindful presence throughout the holidays.

Bergamot FCF – Organic

  • Green, fresh, sweet, mouth-watering aroma, with bright, citrusy top notes and a warm, floral aspect that develops in the drydown. The cheerful aroma of Bergamot uplifts the spirit while dispelling heaviness, infusing your busy day with a sense of ease and optimism.
  • Suggested Use: Diffuse it for a refreshing lift, or dilute in Fractionated Coconut Oil with Sandalwood and Clary Sage to create a chest and belly rub.
  • Clary Sage - Organic

  • Intense, diffusive, fresh, sweet-herbaceous aroma with tea, soft tobacco and leather-like undertones. The aroma of Clary Sage invites introspection and release – perfect for unwinding after social events or getting ready for bed.
  • Suggested Use: Add to a relaxing evening bath with Lavender, or add a drop of each to a cotton ball and place it inside your pillow.
  • Hinoki Wood

  • Dry, fine woody, light terpenic aroma with soft herbal/lemony overtones and a warm, sweet, somewhat spicy undertone. The serene aroma of Hinoki Wood evokes strength, tranquility, and a grounded spirit, helpful during times when we feel overstimulated and disconnected.
  • Suggested Use: Formulate a meditation blend in Marula Oil along with Patchouli and Rose to support spiritual clarity and connection.
  • Neroli, Egypt

  • Delicate yet powerful, uplifting white floral aroma with a fresh, sweet, subtle bitter green top note. The ethereal aroma of Neroli carries a heart-opening energy and promotes peaceful communication.
  • Suggested Use: Add to a rollerball bottle with Jojoba Oil to create an easily accessible perfume. Frankincense and Bergamot can be added for extra support when times feel overwhelming.
  • Vetiver, Madagascar - Organic

  • Rich, smooth, earthy aroma with subtle smoky undertones, notes of leather, and a woody drydown. The deep aroma of Vetiver is profoundly rooting and quieting, helping to bring awareness back to the present moment.
  • Suggested Use: Dilute into an anointing or massage blend with Hinoki Wood and Ginger in Argan Oil and apply to feet and lower legs in the morning to start the day feeling anchored and embodied.
  • White Sage

  • Fresh, cooling, somewhat powerful, strongly camphoraceous aroma, with a mild cineolic aroma reminiscent of Rosemary. Sustainably grown on a small family farm in Southern California, the purifying aroma of our White Sage helps clear stagnant energy and brings a sense of renewal.
  • Suggested Use: Create a clearing room spray with Lavender and Eucalyptus in a spray bottle with distilled water. Shake well before each use. Or add to a diffuser before gatherings or meditation.
  • Caution: Avoid White Sage during pregnancy or with young children.
  • Yuzu, Distilled

  • Bright, strong, faintly floral, aromatic citrus in the manner of Bergamot or Grapefruit, with a zesty, green citrus/pith backnote that becomes a balsamic sweetness in the drydown. The unique, long-lasting aroma of Yuzu brings lightness to the darker months and inspires clarity.
  • Suggested Use: Combine with Hinoki Wood in a warm foot bath with Epsom salts to refresh the senses and renew focus.
  • Your Moment of Stillness

Amid all the action and festivities, take time to pause and breathe. Allow the quiet strength and support of aromatherapy to help you slow down, reset, and be in the joy of the moment. Through thoughtful self-care and formulation, we can give ourselves the gift of returning to center.

Notes of Caution: We recommend performing a patch test when working with any of our ingredients topically. Before using any essential oil, please see all Safety Considerations on the left side of the product page. If you have any medical conditions or are on medication, please consult with your physician before using essential oils.
