Softly stunning and surprisingly smooth, our Wool Absolute has a rich, sweet, warm, animalic musky aroma with notes of dried fruit, resins, and leather along with boozy, fatty, and mineralic nuances and excellent tenacity. This special offering for natural perfumers is solvent extracted from upcycled, clean sheep’s wool at our production facility in southern France. The result is a gorgeous, affordable animalic material that offers unique bucolic facets for your Oud accords, musk bases, chypre, gourmand, and fantasy perfume compositions.
There are very few ethically produced animalic materials available to the natural perfumer. Our Wool Absolute is made from a by-product of the wool industry, produced without any harm to animals. We obtain excess wool from French farms sheared from grass-fed New Zealand sheep to produce this rare, sustainable, cruelty-free alternative to animal-derived materials such as deer musk, civet, or castoreum.
The primary constituents found in Wool Absolute are saturated fatty acids – palmitic and stearic, found in palm oil and animal fats, as well as pentadecanoic acid, found in full-fat dairy products and known to have a creamy, fatty, and slightly waxy aroma. These help give Wool Absolute its soft, honey-like texture and silky feel. Cosmetic formulators may want to experiment with incorporating this material into body care products.
Rich and complex, Wool Absolute helps soften and round compositions with luxurious smoothness. Lending naturalness to a wide variety of aromatic formulations, it provides the comforting and sensual intimacy of a musk and the coziness of a shearling coat or fuzzy wool sweater, without being reminiscent of a barnyard. Perfumers will enjoy its versatility in Oud bases, Amber and leather accords, to enhance florals and spices, and as a long-lasting fixative to help increase the longevity of perfumes.
