Product Overview

Our Rose de Mai Absolute is a very fine Egyptian Rose oil that is extracted from the cabbage rose – Rosa centifolia. The Rose plants used are certified organically grown (however the absolute is not). Our Rose de Mai is voluptuously sweet and sensuous and one of our favorite Rose Absolutes. R. centifolia (the ‘hundred-petaled rose’) is known as Rose de Mai in reference to the month May when it generally blooms, as well as ‘the painter’s rose’ because its large, globular flowers are the featured rose in many works of the early masters.

“For its perfume, the Rose reigns supreme amongst the flowers of the world.”[1] Used throughout history for their exquisite, comforting and inspiring scent and visual beauty, Roses of every color and size are esteemed for being metaphorical “heart openers.” With their multi-petaled intricacy, it is no surprise that Rose essential oils and absolutes are among those that have the most chemical complexity. And while many of the more than 400 chemical constituents[1] of Rosa centifolia and Rosa damascena are present in mere trace amounts, they contribute immensely to the sublime and nuanced fragrance we know as Rose.

Our Rose de Mai Absolute is very concentrated – please dilute this oil with Jojoba or other vegetal oil (or perfumer's alcohol) prior to using. Feel free to use it in your natural perfume blends, especially in combination with Jasmine, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang. Also try blending Rose de Mai Absolute with our Amber Essence Oil to make your own unique Amber Rose oil.

Favorite Rose

Rating

I liked the organic extract, but this has a more intense aroma that pulls you in. Another interesting fact is unlike the Rose Absolutes which are reddish orange in color, this is green! (little darker green than the organic extract)

the best

Rating

that is my favorite rose out off all the choices on this website. It is very soft, has a bit of tea smell to it. Just beautiful and sophisticated. The closest to an actual rose. The Rose de mai extract is pretty bad...not sure what to even do with it... definitely not for use on its own.

smokey top note

Rating

it started off very smokey, then slightly woody, but dries down to a sweet warm creamy rose. interesting. I wanted to like the rose de mai extract so much, but I prefer this absolute to the extract.

Stunning

Rating

After reading the reviews, I had to add a more current review to do justice to this stunning oil. Fresh, green, lightly sweet, silky, seductive rosy floral. It's rose but also has a much more ethereal quality. Complex but light. It's a gorgeous light greenish color. I'm not usually crazy about rose but this one is now one of my prized scents to use for perfumery.

A decidedly smokey smell :-(

Rating

This was one of those experiences that reminds me how important it is to buy a small sample if relatively expensive. What I bought this '15 summer has a decidely smokey smell to it, really not what I would call "fresh or vibrant." Rose scent is there but with a strong woody smoke addition, not what I expected.
