Product Overview

Our Nutmeg essential oil’s lively, highly aromatic aroma is light, fresh, warm, spicy-sweet, with a warm, woody drydown. Nutmeg oil is used in the perfume industry in “spicy” perfumes, men’s fragrances, after-shaves and lotions[3], and is an interesting and warm top note in floral blends.

Nutmeg is suitable for massage blends, joint rubs, in relaxing baths, and skincare preparations. In a diffuser, the aroma of Nutmeg encourages an ambiance of peace and comfort. It has been highly esteemed since the ancient civilizations of India and Egypt.[1] Myristica fragrans essential oil is distilled from the dried kernels of the fruit of this evergreen tree that originated in the Moluccas (historically known as the Spice Islands) of Indonesia. The trees are now found in various parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and the Caribbean (especially Grenada).[2],[3]

Reminds me of the Caribbean. When paired with orange it's juicy and grounding at the same time. Love this oil!

Versatile and Gorgeous

Rating

I am surprised that there are not more reviews of this gorgeous oil! Nutmeg is an aromatic treasure, especially useful in fragrances. I get fresh, spicy, warm, woody notes out of my bottle (lot #1) and a very, elegant, "fine fragrance" feeling overall. The essential oil is far more nuanced than the powdered material you might find in a kitchen, and it seems to elevate anything it is blended with. When mixed with virginia cedarwood and ambrette, nutmeg creates it a "dusty, old library" type base. When mixed with florals such as rose or jasmine it really brings out the spice and mystery. It can even take the edge off a sweet oil like benzoin, and make it smell more unisex and complex. I find myself using nutmeg more and more all the time. Would love to see Eden bring in the absolute version at some point (it has powdery nuances that are just magical). However this is certainly the best steam distilled nutmeg I've ever smelled at an affordable price point, too! I cannot recommend it enough!

Animalic Aromas – Notes of Warmth, Leather, and Musk

Have you ever wondered what perfumers mean when they describe a scent as ‘animalic’? In perfumery, the Animalic aroma family refers to essences that evoke the warmth and intimacy of living beings – notes that are musky, leathery, sensual, and sometimes just a touch ‘dirty.’

Getting to Know Geranium – A Rosy, Green Floral

Few essential oils strike the balance between beauty, versatility, and utility quite like Geranium. Bold, green, rosy-floral, and endlessly adaptable, it’s both a formulator’s ally and a perfumer’s force of nature. Native to South Africa, flowering Geranium was brought to Europe in the 17th century and is now cultivated globally for its remarkably rose-like aroma and wide-ranging benefits.
