Product Overview

If you are looking for a soft but potent green floral to add to your aromatic blends, our sumptuous Geranium Absolute has a soft yet intense, rich leafy/green aroma with a persistent, sweet rose-like undertone and slight minty note in the drydown. It displays very good tenacity, conjuring up the aroma of springtime’s tender green shoots and fresh flowers as nature begins to yawn, stretch, and reawaken from winter’s long slumber. (Also known as Rose Geranium)

Native to South Africa, the Pelargonium genus includes around 270 unique species and is considered one of the most adaptable in the botanical world. Producing a veritable symphony of aromatics, Geraniums boast scents of rose, ginger, apple, coconut, strawberry, mint, nutmeg, citrus, pepper and more that are released from glandular leaf hairs, or trichomes. This enormous diversity of aromatic constituents, created for adaptation to many different habitats, is almost unequaled in the plant kingdom.[1] The result is a remarkably versatile aroma with wide-ranging benefits.

Geranium Absolute is recommended for adding a rich body note in natural perfumery applications where the absolute is preferable over the essential oil. Because it blends seamlessly with so many other aromatic materials, it is an invaluable ingredient to complement and/or amplify rose or other floral-based perfumes, to increase tenacity, and to add an interesting note to most any other natural perfume. Popular in florals, herbals, fougeres, colognes, and chypres, try it for tempering the headiness of white florals or to embolden and brighten dark ambers and earthy musks.

Getting to Know Geranium – A Rosy, Green Floral

Few essential oils strike the balance between beauty, versatility, and utility quite like Geranium. Bold, green, rosy-floral, and endlessly adaptable, it’s both a formulator’s ally and a perfumer’s force of nature. Native to South Africa, flowering Geranium was brought to Europe in the 17th century and is now cultivated globally for its remarkably rose-like aroma and wide-ranging benefits.
