Bay Rum Leaf Has Arrived – Bold, Spicy, and Timeless

Written By: Robin Lander

Were buzzing about the arrival of our new Bay Rum Leaf essential oil! Distilled from the leaves of the Pimenta racemosa tree, the aroma carries a rich legacy from the Caribbean where the leaves were traditionally steeped in rum to create the iconic "bay rum" tonic aftershave. This time-honored preparation spread across the world, prized for its refreshing, spicy scent and skin-soothing properties. While the original bay rum formula often included a mix of additional botanicals, Bay Rum Leaf essential oil on its own is a striking aromatic with deep historical resonance and versatile application.

For formulators, Bay Rum Leaf offers an intriguing aromatic profile: warm, spicy, sweet and clove-like with balsamic, earthy, and herbaceous undertones. Its bold yet balanced character makes it an ideal middle note for exotic colognes, enlivening aromatherapy blends, and tropical-inspired body care. Pairing beautifully with citrus, spice, woody, resinous, and floral oils, it adds both aromatic complexity and an uplifting, easeful vibe. Whether you're recreating classic grooming products or exploring new interpretations, Bay Rum Leaf brings a timeless, exhilarating aroma to modern formulations.

While Bay Rum Leaf has a multitude of uses, we love to experience the aroma in a clean, simple, skin-loving after shave gel. This boldly fragrant blend feels wonderful on the skin, helping to soothe, moisturize, and invigorate the senses.

Then, use the fine stem pipettes to add each essential oil to the bottle. Swirl the bottle gently to combine. Use a large measuring stem pipette to add the Aloe Vera Gel. Lastly, add the Tulsi Hydrosol (2 Tablespoons equals one ounce), twist on the cap and shake vigorously to combine thoroughly.

Note: this recipe includes an approximate 2% dilution of essential oils. If you have sensitive skin or prefer a lighter aroma, you can reduce the essential oils by half.
