Behind the Scenes with Alison, Eden Botanicals Photographer

Written By: Eden Botanicals

When it comes to formulation, helping our customers understand our products and how to use them is important to our team at Eden Botanicals – including detailed descriptions of what they look, smell, and feel like. One of the best ways to highlight the color, texture, and real-world appearance of each material is through the photographs on our website.

Did you know there is an incredible person behind those product shots? We’re excited to introduce Alison, Eden Botanicals Photographer and the talented eye behind our photography and video content.

Photography has been a passion of Alison’s since childhood. Growing up as an avid scrapbooker, she often had a camera in hand, documenting everyday life and telling stories through imagery. Her love of visual storytelling continues to shape her work today.

Follow along as we learn more about Alison and how she transforms our products into imagery that is polished, informative, and true-to-life.

From Shipping to Studio

A Sonoma County local, Alison has been part of the Eden family for more than ten years. She began in the shipping department before moving into the production lab, where she helped with the meticulous work of pouring, mixing, and bottling our materials. She later became Lab Supervisor and, always eager to learn and grow, expanded to the role of Receiving Supervisor. Eventually, she brought in her skills in photography, helping create an on-site photo studio at our facility.

Through her extensive Eden Botanicals journey, Alison has a uniquely deep understanding of our products from the inside out. Her intimate, hands-on knowledge of each material shines forth in her work, helping bring our products to life.

Capturing Products with Clarity and Authenticity

Simplicity and authenticity are the guiding principles behind Alison’s photography. To create images that are both effective and educational, she believes a clean, uncluttered, and well-lit composition is essential. When a photo becomes too visually busy, attention can shift away from the product itself.

Every shoot starts with lighting. Whether she’s working indoors or outdoors, Alison’s first priority is making sure the product is illuminated and presented in a way that feels clear, intentional, and visually appealing.

Next is ensuring authenticity when representing the product’s natural state. For example, with thicker or solid materials, Alison may use a metal tool to stretch or demonstrate texture so customers can better understand the material’s consistency. If a product is shown only after being warmed or significantly altered, it may not accurately reflect the experience customers will have when they first open the bottle.

How a Product Photo Comes Together

Her technical setup typically includes two light sources, a tripod for consistency and stability, and plenty of hands-on styling throughout the shoot. And yes—Alison is often both the photographer and the person holding pipettes, tools, or styling elements while capturing the image!

  • Set up the shooting area, lighting, light box, and backdrop.
  • Prepare the products, which may include styling, measuring samples, or occasionally warming materials for demonstration purposes.
  • Build the composition with props that enhance—but don’t distract from—the product.
  • Capture multiple angles and detail shots while adjusting lighting and styling in real time.
  • Edit the final images for consistency, color accuracy, and brand presentation.
  • Stay Tuned for More

Today, Alison works as a sought-after wedding, couples, and portrait photographer while continuing her work with Eden part-time, creating product photography and visual content.

She also produces video content for Eden, including Instagram reels and some of the educational and behind-the-scenes videos you may have seen online.

Her latest projects? Keep an eye out for exciting visual updates coming to our website over the next year. Through both photography and video, we’re looking forward to enhancing the online experience and helping our customers connect with our products in new ways.
