A Quick Guide: How to Navigate Our Product Pages

When it comes to natural ingredients, we know that formulators need quick access to detailed, trustworthy information to create effective and exceptional products. Perhaps you require supporting documents (such as a COA), an organic certificate, or you’re wondering how to use the material safely. Whether you're blending essential oils for aromatherapy, perfume, cosmetics or candles, our product pages are designed with you in mind.

All About Appearance

The first thing you’ll see the color, texture, and viscosity of the oil from the product photo at the top left. Our amazing in-house photographer, Alison (who also doubles as our Receiving Manager), is the talent behind every product image, carefully photographing each one.

Pricing, Sizing, and Packaging

Next, how much do you need? When you land on the product page, at the top you’ll find pricing based on container size. Wondering if the bottle comes with an orifice reducer to dispense drop by drop? You’ll find that here. If the selected size does not say ‘with orifice reducer’ then that size comes with an open neck bottle for easy dispensing with a pipette. A quick note on orifice reducers, only 5 ml and 15 ml (½ oz) bottles with white caps have orifice reducers. Anything in 5 ml or 15 ml with a black cap will not have an orifice reducer due to the thicker viscosity of the oil.

For Hydrosols and Carrier oils, click on a size and look above the pricing to see if that size includes a sprayer (all sizes up to 2 oz include a sprayer) and whether the bottle is plastic or glass.

Directly below the pricing, you’ll find the Details section for a quick overview of the specifics.

Here you’ll find all of the pertinent botanical information:

Botanical Name (e.g., Lavandula x intermedia)

Suggested Use (e.g., Aromatherapy, Perfumery, Cosmetics, Soapmaking, Candle Crafting)

INCI Name (e.g., Lavandula Hybrida (Lavandin) Oil)

Extraction Method (e.g., steam distilled)

Cultivation (e.g., certified organic)

Plant Part (e.g., flower)

Origin (e.g., France)

Wondering what the material smells like and how to use it in making an aromatic blend? You’ll also find these in the Details section:

Note (e.g., top, middle)

Aroma Family (e.g., floral)

Aroma Profile (e.g., Fresh, camphoraceous, herbal/floral, clear, green; a fine quality Lavender hybrid that is a cost-effective substitute for true Lavenders.)

Lastly, you will find a written description on the appearance of the oil at the bottom:

Appearance (e.g., Colorless, transparent, mobile liquid.)

Working with the Material: Additional Resources

To the left of the Details section and directly under the product image you’ll find expandable drop down sections of several helpful resources: Solubility & Blending Suggestions, Suggested Resources, Safety Considerations, downloadable PDFs of the latest Certificates of Analysis (COA), and several other supportive documents:

One of the most often asked question we get is on how to blend an oil and how to incorporate it into your formulations. In the extremely helpful Solubility & Blending Suggestions section, you’ll find tips such as:

Dilution specifics, including whether the material requires s p e c i a l u s e i n s t r u c t i o n s to blend, such as a gentle heating in a water bath.

Recommended percentages for cosmetic uses, if applicable.

Solubility specifics (e.g., Soluble in alcohol and fixed (carrier) oils.)

Fun perfumery facts from renowned sources.

Suggested Resources

Here we’ve curated a few of our favorite books as well as links to relevant external articles to help you increase your knowledge base and further explore through respected sources.

Safety Considerations

Don’t skip this important section! It covers must-know details, such as:

Safety references from industry-trusted sources.

Possible contraindications and skin interactions, including any suggested or published maximum dermal use levels.

Storage specifics and whether refrigeration is advised.

Downloadable COAs and other Supportive Documents

Open the Certificates of Analysis (COA) drop-down menu and you’ll find downloadable PDFs for up to the last 8 lots of the material. Look at your bottle to see which lot you received, then click on your specific lot to either download or view the corresponding COA. COAs include details such as:

Batch-specific data confirming quality standards.

Manufacturing date and ‘best by’ date.

Primary constituents found in the material.

Third party GC/MS Testing Analysis, when available.

Just under the COAs, you’ll find a Documents drop-down menu where you can access the following supportive documents

Safety Data Sheet (SDS), required for regulatory and transportation compliance.

Technical Data Sheet (TDS) covering core features of the material.

IFRA Certificate that details usage limits based on IFRA (International Fragrance Association) guidelines.

EU Allergen Statement listing potential allergenic substances found in the material.

Declaration of Purity in support of the material.

Declaration of Non-Animal Testing for your vegetarian, vegan and cruelty free claims.

Product Overview: Specifics and Insights

At the heart of the product page is a detailed Product Overview. Here you’ll find:

Further details about the aroma, including how it might compare to similar products.

Usage insights such as suggested uses, how the material may perform in blends, historical uses, and other unique characteristics.

Botanical information about the origin and habitat of the plant, varietal specifics, and how these might affect the various constituents in the material.

This section aims to help you evaluate whether the oil suits your desired aromatic direction or formulation purpose.

Below the Product Overview you’ll find a list of materials that are known to harmonize aromatically with the product. Click on a Product Family to view related products. This is a great way to inspire your blending and get new ideas for unique compositions.

What are Customers Saying?

And, don’t overlook the Customer Reviews section near the bottom of the product page. Here, fellow formulators share their honest impressions on the material, valuable insights into how the material behaves in different applications, ways they have diluted it, what they have tried blending it with. A wealth of information!
