Fresh Aromas for a Bright New Year

Written By: Robin Lander

There’s nothing like a fresh aroma to put a little pep in your step. In aromatherapy and perfumery, the Fresh aroma family encompasses scents that are bright, crisp, and invigorating. Like a breath of cool morning air, they evoke a feeling of clean, open, enlivening clarity as they uplift the spirit and refresh the senses.

When used in fragrance compositions, fresh aromas introduce revitalizing, sparkling qualities. Typically, they are the most volatile and diffusive of scent materials, traveling through the air quickly. Most often used as top notes, Fresh aromas act as an enticing invitation to a blend, capturing the attention immediately and creating a lively first impression.

How about welcoming the new year with energizing scents of freshness? Let’s highlight a few of our favorite Fresh aromas and how to use them.

Cypress Leaf, White

  • This relatively new Australian oil has a fresh, crisp, pine-like and citrusy aroma with woody balsamic undertones. Cypress Leaf, White is an elevating addition to aromatherapy blends, post-workout bodywash and massage oils, clarifying cleansers and serums for oily and congested skin, room sprays, and candles.
  • Cardamom Organic

  • A treat for the senses, our Cardamom - Organic has a spicy-sweet, rich, warm, highly aromatic, slightly cineolic aroma that becomes balsamic-woody and increasingly sweet in the drydown. As part of the ginger family, it has been used extensively in cosmetics and perfumery since ancient times to add warm, fresh, and invigorating qualities.
  • Eucalyptus, Narrow Leaf Organic

  • With a refreshing, very diffusive, cineolic aroma, our Eucalyptus Narrow Leaf – Organic has subtle citrus and peppery-floral overtones and a more complex, pleasing aroma than the commonly known Eucalyptus, Blue Gum. It’s a beautiful choice for diffusers, outdoor sprays, joint and muscle massage, chest rubs, foot lotions, and oily scalp and skin preparations.
  • Peppermint, India - Organic

  • Fresh, candy-sweet, deep and strongly minty with a powerful menthol and balsamic undertone, our Peppermint, India – Organic is the sweetest and most minty of our Peppermint oils. The cooling aroma is prized in muscle and joint massage blends, outdoor and body sprays, diffusers, holiday blends, and as a lovely companion during long car rides or while studying.
  • Basil, Sweet ct Linalool - Organic

  • This chemotype of Basil has a strongly green, faint anise-like, sweet herbaceous scent with a rich balsamic undertone. Credited with clarifying and enlivening qualities, Basil, Sweet ct Linalool is particularly refreshing when added to a diffuser, belly rubs, or muscle and joint massage. Natural perfumers value its unique fresh-herbaceous character.
  • Lemon - Organic

  • We’d be remiss not to include a citrus as lively as our Lemon - Organic in our list of favorite Fresh aromas. The intense lemon peel scent is a zesty, tart top note widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, and household products. Added to diffusers and room sprays, it brings an ambiance of optimism and renewal.
