Product Overview

Palo Santo essential oil has a unique woody, fruity/balsamic sweet aroma, with citrus, mint and soft spice nuances that is somewhat reminiscent of Frankincense.

Palo Santo, the Spanish name given to this South American tree, means ‘holy wood’, an appropriate name for its many applications in spiritual practices. The smoke of Palo Santo wood is traditionally used in ceremony similar to the use of White Sage in smudging practices. It comes from the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as Frankincense and Myrrh and the aroma is often used to evoke an ambiance of calm and sacred contemplation in the same way as its botanical cousins.

Our Palo Santo is distilled in small batches from sustainably harvested wood. The aged, dead wood is gathered from the forest floor on Ecuador's Pacific coast, allowing the production of oil without any harm to the living trees.[1],[2] Among the various molecules that are resurrected from the dead wood upon distillation are none other than the familiar and ubiquitous limonene, alpha-terpineol – the claim to fame of Tea Tree – and menthofuran, the musty/minty terpenic compound notably found in Peppermint oils. The comforting and inspiring aroma is recommended for diffusers, room sprays and meditation blends.

Palo Santo is such an energetic oil that if not processed carefully it seems it could easily "get angry" and run rampant, or at least come on too strong in an overeager and misguided display; definitely some powerfully spiritual constituents that command utmost respect! Easy to understand its shamanic value when confronted with its strength. I ordered EB's sample to compare to another Palo Santo that hasn't quite worked for me--I found the other to be almost unbearably expansive and volatile, reminiscent of WD-40, and sadly no amounts of frankincense and sandalwood seem capable of taming and soothing it. I admit my heart goes out to the poor stuff because it *seems* to be trying so very hard! However, EB's is thankfully much calmer. Still potentially "wild and overpowering," as Miika put it, as it was the first scent to escape when I cut the tape on my order, but this Palo Santo resonates in much more deliberate way. This smells clear-eyed and purposeful to me. Punky but not excessively so, bright, a bit camphoraceous, it seems ready for anointing, cleansing and strengthening. I look forward to crafting something sacred with this! Thank you, EB, for selecting oils that take obvious care in the crafting.

I love it.

Palo Santo has very potent scent. it easily overpowers other oils in blend so you don't need palo santo oil very much. Scent is very hard to define....my nose detects different notes every time i sniff the scent from the bottle... It is warm scent but at the same time cooling... when used as perfume on skin it has very nice sandalwood like dryout scent and it lasts a long time. Palo Santo is a little bit tricky to use in blends because of its wild overpowering character. Other tree oils blend well with the Palo Santo when you use Palo Santo in minute amounts... Also, citrus and flower oils get sometimes a very exotic character when Palo Santo is added. I Use Palo Santo as perfume... I dont usually wear single note scents.... but Palo Santo is one of those scents that i like to wear all the time. I drop few drops on my pillow when i go to sleep...it gives very relaxing sleep.

This oil is simply amazing. It's a potent and intoxicating option for people with asthma who cannot tolerate the smoke from burning wood. Thank you Eden Botanicals for offering this unique oil!

Amazing Scent!

Palo Santo is not easy to find, and I needed some for a special incense I was making. This one is simply gorgeous, true to the wood, with an especially potent vibe. A little goes a long way, and the scent from even one drop will fill a room with it's lovely odor. I combine it with copal for a particularly magical effect.
