Essential Oils S-U

On This Page

Sage, Spearmint, Thyme, Tea Tree and Blue Tansy are several valuable therapeutic grade essential oils that you will find on our S-U page. Tea tree oil is of particular importance in aromatherapy. It has been extensively researched and has a long history of use in Australia. It has been found to be active against all three kinds of infectious organisms: virus, fungi and bacteria. Tea tree oil has also been known to be immensely helpful in stimulating the immune system to protect itself against all three types of infections. Therefore, it has been used with great versatility in treating many situations – including skin conditions (acne, herpes, cold sores, fungi, dandruff, warts and even burns); the respiratory system (asthma, coughs, sinus infections, etc.), women’s health for treating vaginal yeast and other infections; and of course – in treating respiratory problems, colds and ’flu. Produced mainly as a flavoring agent Spearmint Oil has been used for centuries for its restorative properties. With similar properties to Peppermint, only less powerful, Spearmint essential oil has been adapted for use in treating children’s maladies including headaches, hiccough, indigestion, colic, and nausea. Also noteworthy is Turmeric, an ancient remedy for arthritis and rheumatism, and an excellent anti-inflammatory that is beneficial in treating digestive problems.

And for the perfumer’s palette, the precious woody notes of Sandalwood and Spikenard are wonderful fixatives and base notes in masculine fougere fragrances and woody orientals. We offer two types of Sandalwood oil – Sandalwood essential oil from Vanuatu, and Sandalwood Absolute from Australia. Both are excellent alternatives to the nearly extinct East Indian Sandalwood oil. The Australian Sandalwood Absolute is very subtle and is perfect for use as a lighter base and fixative in sheer compositions such as floral bouquets, citrus and colognes. Spikenard is another precious woody note, and we have both the essential oil and the CO2 extraction. This musk-like aroma of this root has been prized since ancient times for its therapeutic, calming and fragrant qualities. In perfumery, it complements Agarwood, a note with which it shares a mossy, musky, earthy woody-root aroma. And last but not least – the queen of the night – Tuberose Absolute, one of the most precious flower essences in the world, renown for its intoxicating, creamy white floral fragrance.

Vanuatu Sandalwood Essential Oil

Top of Page
  • Botanical Name: Santalum austrocaledonicum
  • Origin: Vanuatu (South Pacific), Ethically harvested
  • Process: Steam distilled
  • Plant Part: Heartwood
  • Grade: Therapeutic grade
  • Aroma: Woody, creamy and rich
  • Note: Base note
  • Perfumery Uses: Similar to Indian Sandalwood

Description

Our Vanuatu Sandalwood is purchased from a company that has been growing 7,000 Sandalwood trees a year for the last 9 years. This species is easier to cultivate than Indian Sandalwood, and the trees are being grown in plantations and in villages with the goal of providing the island with a sustainable harvest of trees.

Vanuatu Sandalwood is from the South Pacific Island of Vanuatu near New Caledonia and Fiji. Our Vanuatu Sandalwood is steam distilled and is from the same species of tree as New Caledonian Sandalwood.

Vanuatu Sandalwood essential oil is the perfect substitute for Indian Sandalwood because it has a rich, creamy aroma that is similar to a good quality Indian Sandalwood, yet it is stronger and longer lasting (due to the high percentage of santalols in the oil). It is also available at an attractive price when compared to Indian Sandalwood oil.

Sandalwood, Australian - Organic

Top of Page
  • Botanical Name: Santalum spicatum
  • Origin: Australia, Wild grown - Certified Organic (NOP)
  • Process: Solvent extracted
  • Plant Part: Heartwood
  • Aroma: Sweet, sharp, woody
  • Note: Base note
  • Perfumery Uses: A valuable fixative

Description

There is not enough Indian Sandalwood to go around, and we need to find substitutes. The Australian Sandalwood is one such substitute.

The Australian Sandalwood tree is in the genus Santalum, as is Indian Sandalwood, although it does have quite a different aroma. It is certainly not as warm, sweet and woody as Indian Sandalwood oil, but it is a useful oil none the less.

We like this organic Australian Sandalwood for its great potency and for its fixative value. It can be favorably blended into essential oil formulas in small amounts. This is a valuable oil that we like to use in certain applications.

Description

Our Spikenard CO2 is an authentic Spikenard oil of exceptional character. Whether your interest in this ancient oil is perfumery, anointing or for its calming therapeutic value, you will enjoy this oil as much or more than most any other Spikenard oil to be found. Spikehard is a rare and precious oil that should be used sparingly due to the very limited range that it is naturally found. We feel extremely fortunate to have secured this current supply and are happy to offer it to those who are looking for this rarity.

Spikenard (or Jatamansi, as it is also called) is one of the ancient Eastern oils, shrouded in mystery for centuries. It is the nard of the Bible, and the expensive oil that Mary Magdalene used to wash the feet of Jesus. According to Patricia Davis, Spikenard is an especially comforting oil for those who are experiencing deep inner pain over the suffering caused by natural or man-made disasters.

Spikenard grows high in the Himalayas and should be considered a rare and precious oil. It is a little known and little used oil, yet it is valuable for those whose interest is in ancient oils, or for those looking for its unique aroma and/or therapeutic affects.
