Product Overview

Tobacco Absolute is a very tenacious, aromatic material that adds warmth, depth and character to natural perfumes, especially masculine and Amber blends when used in very small amounts. It has a woody, mossy, sweet hay-like, warm herbaceous aroma reminiscent – when diluted – of fine pipe tobacco. PLEASE NOTE: While this product is considered 'Nicotine Free' by our manufacturer, it still may contain trace amounts.

Tobacco Absolute can also be a prominent note in a composition, such as the classic perfume Tabac Blond by Caron launched in 1919 that “paid homage to the scandalous bad girls who smoked cigarettes in the 1910s and 1920s”[1]; tobacco-themed fragrances too numerous to count have followed on since then.

Nicotiana tabacum has a history that goes back thousands of years in the cultures of the Native peoples of the Americas – the smoke from the dried leaves was and still is respectfully used, sometimes with other herbs, for spiritual and ceremonial purposes.[2] It appears that it was only after the dried herb became a processed commercial interest that deleterious effects became prevalent.

Although Tobacco Absolute is soluble in alcohol, it is only partially soluble in fixed (carrier) oils.[3] It does impart its aroma to fixed (carrier) oils by gently heating both absolute and carrier oil separately before combining. When cooled, insoluble material will precipitate to the bottom, however the portion remaining will be highly aromatic.

Spot on scent

Rating

Just received my tobacco absolute in the mail, shipping was much faster than I expected. There are many various tobacco scents, I was looking for a cigar tobacco scent but this is not it. However, it smells exactly like chewing tobacco. It takes me straight back to my RedMan gold blend chewing days. It is spot on sweet, moist chewing tobacco. I am pleased with it, despite it not being the cigar scent I was looking for. I just mixed it into a fresh batch of beard oil, it's going to sit for a few weeks to let the oils marry and give a truer sense of its final scent.

Love it!

I love this! One whiff and I can see my father with his pipe (from fifty years ago.) It is a beautiful smell.

Exactly What I Wanted

Rating

I am very pleased with the scent of this absolute. It smells just as you would assume it would, like cured tobacco leaf. It is a bittersweet smell (I can almost taste the bitterness), but it is not at all unpleasant, it brings to mind unsweetened chocolate. It also has a dry grass sweetness that I really enjoy. I will definitely buy this again.

This guy's the winner!

Rating

This is one of my very favorite scents. I've used it alone, and enjoyed the way it develops over time. My favorite application is with tonka bean, hay, and a drop of cocoa absolute. I have been very carefully using it, but its time to order more and I am doing so without hesitation. Brings me to a shop in the Adirondacks where I remember standing at about 10 years old, sniffing every single jar of pipe tobacco in the place. This one is a powerful memory-triggering, warm, sweet, deep scent. Thanks, Eden!

High Quality Stuff!

Rating

Oh GOODNESS! I love this stuff. You know, having read so many pyramids for different fragrances, and seeing tobacco listed as a note I thought, "what is so special about tobacco?". I just truly thought it was one of those overrated notes like Oud, for instance. Man oh man, upon sampling this I can see why so many perfumes include it. It smells exactly like tobacco, but not with any negative qualities that you would normally think would be associated with it. This is quality stuff here. It is narcotic and has a raisin-like sweetness to it and is very deep. I can see how this would add some serious depth to a fragrance blend and round it off, especially gourmands or any kind of oriental. Even woods too. I will definitely be considering this for future use.
