Product Overview

Violet Leaf Absolute is one of the costliest and most labor-intensive natural fragrance materials to produce – approximately 2300 kilos of hand-picked leaves yield only 1 kilo of the absolute.[1]

Beloved around the world since the age of the mythological gods and goddesses, diminutive Violet has been revered by the ancient Greeks and Romans, by Pliny and Hippocrates, Shakespeare and Napoleon, and lovers of its perfume throughout time. In the realm of perfumery, Violet Leaf is valued as a superior ‘green’ note, with green notes in general considered to be some of the most important in perfumery.[2] When combined in a carefully worked accord in very small amounts, green notes can "bring a naturalness to a perfume, one that is also very difficult to duplicate."[3] The source of Violet Leaf Absolute’s elusive aroma has stumped many, since this material features a predominance of unremarkable fatty acids. And although many of the other compounds in this oil are present in concentrations of less than 1%, they largely account for the ultra green fragrance that is unmistakably characteristic of Violet Leaf.[4],[5]

Greener than green, and the most intense scent of them all!

Not for the timid, this is the sandalwood of greens. Probably, to be diluted 1/18th of a drop in a blend. By itself, it's greener than green. Tree-leaf juice green. Chlorophyll-heavy, this could be the scent of vine leaves. It's over-confident, like a cross-Atlantic pilot in 1932. Picture this: you've just crash-landed your plane in the Amazon, it's dark and all you can see is lush vegetation. Dark green. It's all around you, it's all you can smell, you're in too deep but there's no turning back. It's the fragrance of adventurers who keep coconut crabs at bay while they figure out how to fix the engine. With twigs and a banana leaf. This violet leaf is "motor oil" greasy-green. It's the fragrance for fearless newbie realtors: you're about to sell your first palatial estate, and this is what you wear to meet that snooty family who think they're better than you. But you smell like a million dollars, and you get the sale. It's the fragrance of winners. It's lush, it's heady, it's the color of money and it's to be used very sparingly.

Trimming hedges

This has the front note note of plant juice, in dilution it is one of the strongest aromas of my many samples. Green as in mid summer full green. Still the back note is out of the herb garden, but of fresh cut, nothing dried here. So a high note filled by a deep note . I put this in with rose Otto, rose abs, patchouli, it melted in. I haven’t finished aging it yet, so idk what the final will be, but it is a an oil that has a punch and a usefulness w/o taking over the show

This is spring in a bottle! I've been mixing it with grapefruit, jasmine, geranium, and clary sage with just a hint of tobacco. Really lovely. Thank you, Eden!

The epitome of Green

When I smell this all I can think of is Green....It is the ultimate green aroma....Even at this dilution it is quite strong...I'm excited to mix with Jasmine and Palo Santo to create a well rounded floral woods blend...I think it is the long lost green base note I have been seeking! Thanks Eden you Rock!

Excellent elegancer and diffuser

I use this at 1% concentration, and even then very sparingly, to enhance the elegance of various compositions. It also has the effect of causing the diffusion of said composition and enhancing the sillage. It only works at higher concentrations in compositions that are either specifically green, or very floral. But what it does when used at the right amounts and in the right compositions makes it absolutely invaluable. It is not the only thing I use as an "elegancer", but it is one of the most important. A little goes a long way, even at this concentration.
