Overview

Organic Ylang Ylang, Fine, Essential Oil

Our organic Ylang Ylang, Fine is an elegant floral with impressive depth, persistence and character - the aroma is intensely sweet, creamy, heady, and slightly spicy with soft balsamic undertones.  Ylang Ylang, Fine is ideal for use in natural perfumery, but also shines brightly in aromatherapy applications where the aroma has the ability to transform with its elevating qualities.

Ylang Ylang’s heady, floral intensity is why it is unfairly referred to as “poor man’s Jasmine” – at a comparatively modest price it is one of the finest aromatic materials in the perfume industry. A deeply rich fragrance in itself, Ylang Ylang is a star ingredient in the natural perfumer’s palette, immortalized in many timeless fragrances, including Chanel No. 5 and Guerlain’s Samsara.1 The lively aroma elevates other florals it is blended with while imparting volume, texture, and a bit of mystery to aromatic formulations.

The name Ylang Ylang appears to come from the Filipino language, from the vernacular ‘Alang-ilang’ by which name this tropical, evergreen tree is known in most of the provinces of the Philippines, its native origin.2 The trees are now almost exclusively cultivated in a tiny corner of the Indian Ocean – The Comoros Archipelago and Madagascar – where the steam-distilled oil from the large, drooping, highly aromatic flowers is a major export.  The ‘Extra’ fraction of Ylang Ylang essential oil, containing the lightest volatiles and believed to have the finest odor for perfumery, is the first of four fractional distillates that are separated by distillation time and/or density (specific gravity). The subsequent ‘First’ and ‘Second’ medium density fractions contain increasing amounts of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and are used in cosmetics and body care products. The ‘Third’ and heaviest fraction is typically used to fragrance soaps, candles and incense. Ylang Ylang ‘Complete’ is technically the result of a continuous distillation of up to 18 hours, rendering a full spectrum, non-fractionated (complete) oil. Ylang Ylang Complete is the preferred oil for aromatherapy applications. Our organic Ylang Ylang, Fine is a unique offering that has been produced using a continuous distillation for 6-7 hours3, rendering a specialty oil that is different from the standard offerings distilled from this flower: Ylang Ylang ExtraIII, III and Complete.

To richly experience Ylang Ylang with its voluptuous and sultry aroma, Tisserand suggests combining it with Clary Sage for a deeply relaxing bath – surely a soak of the Goddesses!4 Such is the euphoric power of Ylang Ylang’s comforting aroma, ideal in body and linen sprays, cosmetics, and hair, scalp, and skincare preparations, particularly for oily, congested or mature skin. The sweetly scented bouquet is a calming favorite, perfectly suited for adding into a diffuser or massage and bath oils before bed.

DILUTION NOTE: When this material is diluted in perfumer's alcohol, there may be cloudiness (please see Appearance section below). Guenther explains: "The solubility of Ylang Ylang oil, in general, is poor. This statement applies to all qualities (fractions). Usually from 0.5 to 3 [percent by] volume of 95 percent alcohol [is] required to give a clear solution, which often becomes cloudy on addition of more alcohol."5 If cloudiness occurs, this precipitates upon standing and can be filtered out, leaving a perfectly clear dilution.

Aromatic Profile: Intensely sweet, creamy, heady, and slightly spicy with soft balsamic undertones; an elegant floral with impressive depth, persistence and character.

Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow, transparent, slightly oily liquid. May cause cloudiness when diluted with alcohol; left undisturbed, this will clarify in a day or two with a small amount of sediment at the bottom. The clear portion can be decanted for filtering if desired.

Use: Aromatherapy / Natural Perfumery.

Blending Suggestions: Dilute and add drop by drop to your blends until the desired effect is achieved. This oil is soluble in fixed (carrier/vegetal) oils and alcohol.

This ylang is softer, refined and with less phenolic smell than others. I don't get any vanilla or otherworldly smell, than a a more beautiful typical ylang.

I encountered this scent in the Art of Botanical Perfume essence kit and it threw me off my feet. I have smelled Ylang Ylang before and never quite care for it but this one is different. My first thought was, this is beautiful. It sparkles at first and then gains ground into a waxy, slightly sweet and fruity banana aspect to it. This scent is warm and radiant sunshine, round and voluptuous. It seems to me almost like a grand, stand-alone being if that makes sense. I think this one ruined all other Ylangs for me...

I've been putting this in my ultrasonic atomizer and I smell a paradise of tropical scents... but more than anything VANILLA. Yes, it keeps coming back to this heavenly tropical vanilla smell. Someone said "otherworldly" and I agree. Absolutely gorgeous!

Ylang Ylang fine is my absolute favorite grade of ylang ylang essential oil, with extra in second, and complete comoros in third. The sample pack was a lot of fun to explore and see the different facets of all the different grades.

Basically, I have spent way too much money on some of the most expensive lily perfumes ever made in search of one that smells just like a florist shop.

This was the thing I needed all along. I know it's ylang ylang, but it smells just like a stargazer lily in full bloom. Absolutely narcotic, a slice of fragrant heaven. This essential oil just changed the fragrance game for me.

Please, NEVER stop making this bottled perfection! It is almost too good to be true. I will order the biggest size I can afford and repeatedly buy this over and over as I run out for the rest of my life. Five stars is not enough. THANK YOU!

Gorgeous oil, not overpowering or anything, flowery, creamy, musky.
This one and the Ylang-ylang, Extra also from Eden Botanicals are absolutely the best ylang ylang I've ever tried. Not medicinal, not overwhelming, just yumminess. Well done Eden Botanicals for another winner.

I love this the most compared to others (III and extra). It's the sweet luxurious floral tone that is not in the ylang III. Glad I ordered the samples and will get the full size next time.

I'm not poetic enough to describe how this Ylang makes me feel. It's if my heart has its head bowed prior to inhaling, but once I breathe it in it lifts its face to the sun and I see glowing petals opening and swaying. Few fragrances have inspired such a pure visual. Get this Ylang--even if you think you don't like heady florals, you can't deny this one's beauty.

This is by far the most amazing ylang ylang I have ever smelled. Anything that I didn't like about other ylang ylangs is not present in this one. It is beautiful, exotic, sensual, and heavenly. I hope that EB never stoppes carrying it. I incorporated it into one of my blends the day I received a sample and I'm going to order a full bottle immediately.

No other Ylang Ylang can compare to a VOP! Review by

I desperately hope that EB never stops carrying this Ylang Ylang VOP. This is the ONLY Ylang Ylang that does not bring on the "musty flower" headache for folks who are sensitive to mustiness. Having the short process is critical. This oil single-handedly sold me on EB being my new primary source for essential oils. The smell has to be experienced, not described. Suffice it to say, a world without Ylang Ylang would not be complete ;).

This Ylang Ylang is to me the perfect tropical scent - lush, sensual, voluptuous and heady. This is an intense fragrance, but not overpowering. I love to mix a few drops into skin lotion and apply after a bath or shower because the aroma lingers for hours and hours.

So Much Nicer Then 1,2+3 Review by

But then, you know, everyone is different. But, I can only say this. Having tried the others, then getting a sample of this was all it took for me. My new 1 oz. bottle will arrive today and I'm excited. This oil is so floral and bright, and just has such an incredible scent, that you won't find in any of the other ylang ylang oils. None I have found anyway.

This just pops with so much overwhelmingly fantastic aroma, that if you simply try a sample, you will be wanting it. I had to get it while it was around, as who knows when it will be gone. This one, kind of like the cocao oil (another amazing oil), is a real keeper! If you like ylang ylang, or even if your just on the fence with it, grab this one. Get all you can afford before it's gone! You won't be sorry.

This to my nose is much nicer than Ylang Ylang 1
it's not as sweet & pungent....this is perfect for blending
and I don't feel will overpower the I & II. Overly sweet gives me a headache, this is just right !

I placed my 2nd order to EB last Friday and as I went through it again and read comments on various scents..the other comments here about this ylang ylang prompted me to try some. Like others I have found it sickly sweet and unpleasant in the past and so have always avoided "anything" with ylang ylang in it and especially ylang ylang itself. I could never understand how anyone could actually like it at all. Now I know why it is so desired and used.
I was so surprised and delighted to breathe in this delicious, delicate, warm, soft, scent. I have not tried the other distils and likely won't. This is delicious and perfectly round and wonderful. When I use ylang ylang..this will be it!

Worth EVERY penny! Review by

First applied to the wrists and neck this surrounds you with a swinging glow. The whirling beauty it reveals in first impression to Drydown is real, fine floral ecstasy. The smoothness and complexity must be witnessed. Anyone needing an uplift or fine skin care this is it. It's ability for exotic moods and healing on many levels other than physical is priceless. Try with orris butter for super antianxiety or whatever else fits the bill. I'm gonna slather this blend on right now, ylang grounded with patchouli and liquidambar. Perfect gummy, candy like floral Forest bomb.
Smooth in its own, it's smoothing ability really tames blends and keeps a strong top note when deepened with other oils.
Thank you EDEN!! I LOVE that it's organic too :-D

I previously had thought I didn't like Ylang Ylang. Apparently I was just smelling very poor quality oils. This stuff shimmers and shines! I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed the aroma of this oil. It has an almost effervescent sparkle. Highly recommended.

Now, I love Ylang Ylang. Over time I've moved up the ladder from III to I to Extra. This, however, has such a lovely well-roundedness about it that I may have found a new Ylang of choice. Those that have smelled the different distillations can really pick out the whole gamut here. In my opinion, this is headier than even the Extra.

"I Do" ylang ylang Review by

This was for many years my favorite of floral scents, so I know it well. However, when I received this yesterday it was the first time experiencing the narcotic/hypnotic properties of this exotic flower. When you bury your face in fresh gardenia or freesia, "narcotic" is like going under ether or laughing gas (very pleasurable relaxation); and hypnotic is the oblivion of everything else around you-- a full immersion into the scentsual. This is richer than light, more translucent grades. The fact that it's organic makes it all the more appealing. This is a full bodied, complex, heady floral with great tenacity-- the ylang ylang I'd choose for a wedding night perfume blend.

This ylang ylang is by far my favorite of all of the distillations and/or varieties of ylang ylang. It is incredibly floral and appealing, yet smooth, without being overly sweet, sharp, or consuming its fellow ingredients. The aroma is very bright floral, high end, and soothing.
