Overview

Organic Douglas Fir Essential Oil

Our beautiful Douglas Fir essential oil has a very intense yet soft, woody-balsamic, sweet coniferous aroma with a vibrant, robust character and great tenacity. Like our Balsam and Siberian Fir oils, Douglas Fir has grounding and elevating qualities – one we highly recommend for use in diffusers to refresh the environment in enclosed spaces, especially in the winter months. Fir is a beautiful addition to oily skin preparations, massage blends, chest rubs, and for diffusing while working or studying.

Coniferous trees in general – Fir, Pine, Spruce – are the guardian trees of our planet with their dense profusion of cleansing constituents, such as alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, terpinolene, and terpinene-4-ol found in Douglas Fir essential oil.1 In Japan, coniferous forests are regarded as special places – even considered sacred – for the effect they have on wellbeing, where 'forest bathing' is recognized as a form of relaxation.2

Towering in heights as great as 320 feet with diameters as large as 17 feet, Douglas Firs are second in size only to the two North American Sequoia (Redwood) genera. At home on every continent, with a lifespan between 500 and 1,000 years, these trees are by far the number one timber tree in North America. The warp-resistant wood is used for railroad ties, telephone poles, furniture, home construction and yoga studio floors. But the tremendous regenerative power of these trees is what ensures their survival – for they are fertile, vigorous and very fast growing.3 Now there is a life force worthhonoring!

Just as the description, there's more to it. Sweet is 1st, very soft balsamic next, but under it all the sense of space in the nose , oxygen or ozone. Perfect!

I was using conventional Spruce/Hemlock (Tsuga Canadensi) oil for some earthy blends, and could not find an organic version or a good substitute until finding THIS lovely oil. It is rich, earthy, smooth, and warm - just perfect.

Douglas Fir is so fresh and clean. It is so relaxing as it reminds me of a walk through the forest after it has rained. It works great for respiratory problems and sore muscles. It is a wonderful addition to holiday blends.
