Overview

Caraway CO2 Select Extract

Our Caraway CO2 select extract, light yellow in color, has a very strong, fresh diffusive, spicy, fruity, woody, warm aroma like that of freshly crushed caraway seeds; the aroma is very often described as reminiscent of freshly baked rye bread. In addition to aromatherapy applications, Caraway is used in personal care products as a fragrance component, and in perfumery.

The myriad variations of aromatic molecules are on full display in Carum carvi (Caraway) essential oil; its main constituents, (+)-limonene and (+)-carvone, are mirror images with identical forms, yet opposite optical rotation than the (-)-limonene and (-)-carvone that appear in Spearmint oil (aka stereoisomers). Similar chemistry means both oils may be used similarly – in warming massage applications for example -  but the more focused and less complex Caraway oil is considered to be the somewhat more dynamic choice. We find that the CO2 extracts of the spice oils are preferable in aroma to the more commonly available steam distilled versions and are especially well suited for natural perfumery purposes. Their energetic and vibrant aroma is true to that of the fresh plant material.

This scent! It is warm, inviting and quite mysterious in a perfume formulation. It is a fugitive top note. Makes a person want to cuddle up close and fascinates with its heady, nutty, peppery invitation. This is a spice, per se, but an elusive and subtle one. My nose seeks this out as a pig for truffles.

Amazing Oil for Outdoorsy Smells Review by

As noted by another reviewer, this totally smells like Rye bread. I'm using it at 5% dilution in ethyl alcohol (190 proof) and it went cloudy. It can be chill filtered of course but I thought I would mention this for EB staff so further notations can be made in the product description. I'm blending this in to make a rye whiskey accord. It's doing an amazing job blending with clary sage, sandalwood, frankincense, amyris, tobacco and cistus. Good god- this is great stuff. Well done, EB!

I love rye bread, and this caraway makes me smile so big. Its just like caraway seeds that have been baked into a delicious rye bread. I love it and will make a very interesting twist in a perfume I came up with. Can't believe no one ever reviewed this before because it's amazing.
