Patchouli - Double Distilled EO

Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth.

(10)

Our Patchouli – Double Distilled is exceptionally smooth and complex, with the richness and depth of our Patchouli Dark; its aroma is earthy, musky, dry, slightly spicy-warm, deep, and very tenacious. Double distillation entails two extraction processes, the first via traditional steam distillation of the Patchouli leaves.

Product Overview

Patchouli is a misunderstood oil that has received an undeserved reputation in recent decades. Author Lizzie Ostrom comments in Perfume: A Century of Scents, "Patchouli oil was the perfume that pretended it wasn’t. Unlike those ‘stuffy’ Diors and Guerlains that were made from a long list of ingredients, this was a natural product, which meant untampered by humans (allegedly) and therefore authentic – straight from the Earth."[1] She adds that Patchouli and other supposedly au naturel scents were a signature of the hippie generation of the 1960s. The Patchouli oils of the day, most of questionable origin and quality, were used to mask the odor of cannabis and to deliver an earthy, rebellious and sexy appeal. Lingering cultural associations still color the reaction of many to this richly-storied and complex oil.

An authentic and truly fine Patchouli oil has a rich and deeply mysterious fragrance that may not be appreciated by many who claim that they "do not like" its scent. Frankly, it is best to approach the aroma of Patchouli in diluted form, on a scent strip, or combined with other essential oils (especially florals), rather than at full strength or directly from the bottle. Keep in mind that when first distilled, Patchouli has a pungency that can be quite pronounced, however a good quality Patchouli oil mellows with age and, when properly stored for a prolonged period, deepens, becomes rich and alluring, developing long-lasting sultry effects – "that full, rich, and almost fruity note for which the best grades of patchouli oil are renowned and so highly esteemed by expert perfumers."[2]

Fantastic

Rating

Patchouli is sometimes a scary note due to its associations with a particular subculture from the 60s and 70s, but this is not one to be afraid of. It's recognizably patchouli but it's truly a fine fragrance note. While the note is a bit strong, it can do amazing things in trace amounts tucked in the background of a scent, particularly one that's floral and woody, but even when I made a patchouli-lavender scent (with a bit of vanilla and musk) it still never smelled like a flashback to decades past, it smelled great. This has to be the one to use. I cannot imagine a better patchouli and have yet to find one.

Without a doubt, this is the best patchouli for perfume blending. I sincerely hope it stays in supply.

Patchouli Double distilled

Rating

I love it! I'm an old lady and have never found the patchouli that I once loved for many years. Its been disappointing but i have already been through one bottle and am ordering another! if you like the original scent of the 60's then you're home with a very reasonable cost!

Patchouli oil double distilled is the best I have ever purchased!

Rating

I wanted to write a review because I have been searching for the patchouli oil I use to love for years! I have found it with your product that I just received. Patchouli oil double distilled is the best I have ever purchased! It is exactly what I have been searching for! Its not that perfumie smell that many have tried before. I hope others will see this review! I also ordered samples and look forward to trying all of them and will definitely be ordering more from you. The samples are a great way to test out the oils. Again, I am so glad I have found you and your prices are spectacular and fair. Thank-you very much! I will be ordering from you only! Elise

My customers go NUTS over this patchouli...

Rating

My customers go NUTS over this patchouli. I sell it in a low dilution in a roll on bottle as a single note essential oil / perfume oil and they cannot get enough of it. If a patchouli could be described as a truly "light" or "fresh" or, I daresay, "feminine" patchouli, this would be it. I have many different varieties of patchouli and they all have their place within my arsenal of natural perfumery materials, but this one in particular is well-loved by women who love to wear patchouli. This is classy as a stand alone scent, and a delightful base note in sultry feminine perfumes.
