Overview

Petitgrain, Mandarin - Organic

Our organic Mandarin Petitgrain essential oil has a sweet, somewhat tangy, fruity grape and plum-like aroma with a slight terpene-like top note and dry, musty undertones. This essential oil contains approximately 50% dimethyl anthranilate – a stunning, fluorescent blue ester with a grape-like aroma – unlike Mandarin oils expressed from the fruit peels containing less than 1% of this specific ester.1 Please note that due to the presence of dimethyl anthranilate, Mandarin Petitgrain has the potential to be photosensitizing.2

The tangy, fresh and green aroma of Citrus reticulata essential oil is a delightful perfume modifier – it "lends excellent body and undertone to Neroli bases… In Pine fragrances, [it] produces a most attractive effect of natural forest sweetness with Oakmoss, Pine needle oils, Fir needle absolute, coumarin derivatives, etc."3 Arctander states that the distinctive 'mustiness' of the odor is characteristic of this essential oil.4

Mandarin Petitgrain has not been available in very large quantities in the past5 – although production has increased in recent years. Nevertheless, while only a relatively limited amount of information has been published about its aromatherapy applications, much is known about its individual components and it is hoped that in time, research will reveal this oil's many advantageous uses. The aroma of Mandarin Petitgrain is suitable in nighttime sprays and calming massage and diffuser blends.

Zippy! Review by

This is really beautiful. I'm not getting the sweet fruity grape and plum-like aroma as described but it does have an ever so slight orange tic tac note, drying down to more of a bitterness. Like a fresh snapped wet branch of a citrus tree. Pairing this with citruses, especially lemon and orange is incredible! Add a few soft florals and some cinnamon bark and you're golden. Yes!

Hey Eden! Restock this little beauty!

NOT like the other Mandarin Petitgrain offered by Eden Review by

Tried this new arrival with my latest order of samples, and it is NOTHING like the other mandarin petitgrain offered by Eden. Where that oil is fruity and florial (almost to the level of the Petitgrain sur Fleurs oil also offered by Eden), this oil is sharp, bitter and green. This is not a pleasing scent on it's own. It is very strong and softens somewhat upon dilution. As a novice, I am not sure what to use this oil for, though I am sure in the hands of an expert it could add depth and complexity to a green floral or citrus blend, it is not an oil to be used on its own.

If you are considering which mandarin petitgrain oil to try, order both - they are on opposite ends of the petitgrain spectrum.
