Overview

Fir Balsam Absolute – 10%

The exquisite aroma of our Balsam Fir Absolute surely embodies the restorative effects that can only be experienced when spending time within the realm of forests.1,2 It is sweet, rich, warm, fruity, jam-like, and intensely balsamic with a coumarin-like undertone of excellent tenacity – exactly like the juicy-fresh smell of recently harvested young conifer trees. When used in low dilution, Balsam Fir Absolute imparts a fresh, natural forest fragrance to a vast array of perfume compositions.

The needles and small branches of the stately Abies balsamea conifers found in eastern Canada are harvested for extraction of Balsam Fir Absolute. If you already appreciate the ascendancy of needle oils, with their buoyant and airy terpenes, you will be undone by the evergreen embrace of a thousand trees’ collective olfactory output - this species’ greatest gift, and no wrapping paper!

This product is diluted for ease of use and contains 10% Balsam Fir Absolute in 90% Fractionated Coconut Oil – Organic. For the pure and undiluted version of this oil, please see our Balsam Fir Absolute.

PLEASE NOTE: Balsam Fir Absolute is not recommended for aromatherapy; it is intended for use in perfumery only. If you are interested in using Balsam Fir for aromatherapy applications, please see the high-quality Balsam Fir essential oils that we offer.

Aromatic Profile: Sweet, rich, warm, fruity, jam-like, intensely balsamic aroma with a coumarin-like undertone of excellent tenacity; the juicy-fresh smell of recently harvested young conifer trees.

Appearance: Light green/brown, transparent mobile liquid.

Use: Natural perfumery. For the pure and undiluted version of this oil, please see our Balsam Fir Absolute.

Blending Suggestions: This product can be applied as a natural perfume as is. It is already diluted for ease of use and contains 10% Balsam Fir Absolute in 90% Fractionated Coconut Oil – Organic. We do recommend diluting this product further if incorporating into an all-over body oil or massage oil (1% dilution ratio recommended instead of 10%). Please note: a little goes a long way.

Blends Well With: Ambrette, Balsam of Peru, Beeswax, Bergamot, Black Currant Bud, Carnation, Cassie, Cinnamon, Cistus, Clary Sage, Clove, Cypress (Blue), Fenugreek, Fir (Douglas), Geranium, Hay, Helichrysum, Jasmine, Juniper Berry, Labdanum, Lavandin, Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Mimosa, Narcissus, Oakmoss, Opopanax, Orris, Patchouli, Pine, Rosemary (Verbenone), Sandalwood, Spruce, Tagetes, Thyme, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Vetiver, Yuzu. "Additions far below one percent in the perfume oil are often sufficient to introduce the wanted “naturalness” to a pine fragrance, and much smaller concentrations can be used to obtain warm and “special effects” in many other perfume types."3

Safety Considerations: No information found. Dilute product further per Blending Suggestions above if using in a leave-on product to be applied over large portions of the body. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.

Isn't this batch smokey a bit? Review by

I smell woody and smokey rather than jammy tone. Is this the same one as the sample provided in 10%? Maybe my nose's fault

Amazing and complex scent Review by

Fir Balsam Absolute is one of the first natural perfuming materials I fell in love with for its complex, sweet, piney, jammy luscious scent, and Eden Botanicals has one of the best. It's well balanced and a perfect combination of fresh, terpenic, and sweet. It's hard to get natural fruity scents, and Fir Balsam Absolute delivers in spades. I love using this scent and in small quantities, it blends nicely in many applications. Since it is such an intense material, it's nice to have access to a 10% dilution. It's more than enough for blending and so easy to work with. I can't recommend it enough!

More of a sensation than odor Review by

Very full odor, for me nothing to do with the forest or trees, reminds me of waking up to toast and jam (good jam) still warm when I wasn’t quite awake, where the taste is in the air, the air is warm around this scent, but still hits the back of the throat
Sweet w/o floral or honey, balsam so low it turns into a feeling

Soul comforting Review by

The first reviewer said "It reaches deep into your heart and tells you everything will be okay." That sold me! I very much had to see for myself. What a pure, sweet, wholesome fragrance. I was excited to learn that absolutes could be made from needles; whatever would have been lost to distillation sure twinkles happily here. My only regret is I did not discover this sooner. It really does touch something way down deep, quiets anxiety, gives you a fresh but familiar outlook upon first sniff. An oil to cherish! I look forward to wearing this as a single scent as I welcome another winter.

Jammy Review by

For 10%, this is a very strong-smelling delicious dilution. I don't think there is a better word than "jammy" to describe this fir absolute. It's sweet but it has that sharp-tart feeling. It's a lovely oil.

This oil smells heavenly. It is strong enough to use the diluted in my blending and is the perfect aroma for my masculine line, although the aroma is perfect for any gender. Love this oil!

JOY Review by

I absolutely love this absolute. The dilution is quite strong and can be diluted even more if need be. The scent is so joyful and every time I open the bottle, I breathe deeply. It's sweet, green, fresh and coniferous. I find it can lend a special touch to not only forest or green blends, but floral and gourmand types as well.

LOVE!! Review by

I love the scent of this absolute. As the pure absolute is thick and waxy, the dilution is so much easier to use. And the scent . . . I could bathe in it! Sweet, jammy, green, fresh, coniferous. I LOVE this stuff.

A very soothing, grounding oil, and very beautiful Review by

This fir balsam is an incredible oil. I find it extremely comforting. It reaches deep into your heart and tells you everything will be okay. I have purchased both the solid absolute and the 10% and I do prefer the undiluted material because I like to use it at a slightly greater than 10% concentration. Although the prediluted oils are a great value, I find they are sometimes inconsistent. I’ve received samples, for example of the dilution, that are much more concentrated than the diluted oils I have subsequently purchased. But the 10% dilution is still very beautiful, and this particular absolute has to be greatly heated to dilute, so you have to be prepared to put the effort in if you want to dilute it on your own. This is one of the most beautiful oils I have ever smelled and I would not be without it. I especially recommend it for support in dealing with grief. It is great for blending as well.
