Overview

Organic Eucalyptus Narrow Leaf Essential Oil

The pleasant smell and valuable profile of constituents of our Narrow Leaf Eucalyptus makes it our favorite Eucalyptus essential oil – its aroma is refreshing, very diffusive, cineolic, with subtle citrus and peppery-floral overtones. Narrow Leaf Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus radiata, is also known as Grey, Black or Narrow-Leaved Peppermint Eucalyptus; its aroma is more complex and generally more pleasing than the aroma of Blue Gum Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus). It is commonly the Eucalyptus of choice, when used with caution and properly diluted, for use with children and sensitive individuals.

For hundreds of years, the Aborigines of Australia have used the leaves of Eucalyptus for various incense and skincare applications. The radiata species of Eucalyptus has a compact crown, dense canopy and thin papery bark shredding in long, colorful ribbons. It was the first of the Eucalyptus species (then known as E. amygdalina5 1) commercially utilized for oil production in Australia in the mid-1800s. Since then, other Eucalyptus species (namely E. globulus, E. polybractea and E. australiana) have superseded E. radiata with regard to higher yields of oil, and it is from these species that most of the current Australian Eucalyptus oils of commerce are now produced.6

Like other Eucalyptus types, Narrow Leaf Eucalyptus is suited for diffusion into the air, outdoor sprays, joint and muscle massage, chest rubs, foot lotions, and oily scalp and skin preparations. With its unique and highly beneficial combination of terpene alcohols, cineole, and the aldehydes neral and geraniol, Kurt Schnaubelt suggests that Eucalyptus radiata could be considered an aromatherapist’s “designer oil” due to its broad effects, attractive price point, and exceptionally pleasant aroma.2 Although we consider Eucalyptus – Narrow Leaf to be the least problematic of our cineole-rich Eucalyptus oils for aromatherapy use, we recommend using it with caution.

Appearance: Colorless, transparent mobile liquid.

Use: Aromatherapy / Natural Perfumery.

Blending Suggestions: Dilute and add drop by drop to your blends until the desired effect is achieved.

Blends Well With: Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Coriander, Ginger, Juniper, Laurel Leaf, Lavandin, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Melissa, Myrtle, Niaouli, Peppermint, Pine, Ravensara, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Thyme, Verbena, Yuzu. E. radiata is "of some interest to perfumery because of its great masking effect … it has a pleasant dryout but little or no fixative effect."3

Safety Considerations:

Although we consider Eucalyptus – Narrow Leaf to be the least problematic of our cineole-rich Eucalyptus oils for aromatherapy use, we recommend using it with caution. Do not apply to or near the face of infants or children under 10 years of age. 4  In general, Eucalyptus - Narrow Leaf is preferred, when diluted and used with caution, for sensitive individuals and children.* Tisserand recommends a maximum dermal use level of up to 20%. 5 However, we recommend a much lower maximum dermal use level of 5-10%. Dilute before using. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.

* The primary constituent in Eucalyptus Narrow Leaf (E. radiata) is 1,8-cineole, a potent and volatile oxide. However, E. radiata has percentages of moderately volatile and extremely gentle constituents that mediate the intensity of 1,8-cineole. All essential oils represent complex synergies, not isolated molecules. For this reason, Eucalyptus Narrow Leaf is preferred for sensitive individuals and children.

Fresh, Brisk, Citrus Review by

So I go to one of those overpriced fancy gyms that offer eucalyptus scented cool towels for the steam room and sauna. Now I thought that was a great scent but this Narrow Form Eucalyptus Radiata blows the experience out of the water. This scent is fresh, brisk, citrus, floral. The camphorous might hit you first at high concentration but the scent is suprisingly soft and very seductive.

So clean smelling! Review by

This is the cleanest eucalyptus I have ever smelled. Subtle notes of pine and mint. l am smelling a Lot 5 batch. Very tenacious dry down, lasting now two hours on the strip. I could definitely see this is a perfume blend without smelling medicinal. There are medicinal smelling varieties of eucalyptus and this is not one of them.

a complex oil that works wonders Review by

I love eucalyptus, but I've always had to be so careful in my application of it (due to camphor and other compounds). I find this narrow leaf variety to be just as effective, but much safer to use! It's organic, smells heavenly, and doesn't make your eyes water! I use it in my bath oils, hair masks, diffusers, and cleaning products and it does a wonderful job at invigorating me while killing off bacteria. If you're feeling run down with a cold, this will become your best friend. It is so much more kid-friendly than other eucalyptus varieties. I will never go back to eucalyptus globulus... this is far more pleasing. Be sure to keep a bottle on hand - it works for everything!

Eucalyptus is the best germ killer Review by

Eucalyptus is the best germ killer. The smell of Eucalyptus is strong and powerful, it can kill germs. I used it to healing wounds, ulcers, burns, cuts. I remembered the last time I used Eucalyptus and Tea Tree to heal a mouth ulcer, I put one drop of Eucalyptus and one drop of Tea tree into the warm water, then kept it inside my month for 1 min, do it for 1 week, and the mouth ulcer is disappeared.

sinus relief Review by

Eucalyptus was my introduction into essential oils when I had searched for homeopathic sinus relief. When our allergies kick in or we begin to feel congested, we put 10 drops in our cool mist vaporizer. Sometimes, for a synergistic effect, we add tea tree oil (melaleuca). My fave sinus oil blend includes myrtle, inula graveolens, rosemary verbena, peppermint, & spike lavender oils. A drop of this can be applied just under the nose to clear congestion. I also like to blend eucalyptus with lemon, sweet orange, tea tree, lavender, & (opt) sandalwood oils for an antibacterial blend known as Thieves oil.
