Overview

Carrot Seed Essential Oil

Our Carrot Seed essential oil has a dry, sweet-woody, root-like, and earthy aroma, with a tenacious wet earth, fatty/oily, slightly spicy dry down. It is derived from Daucus carota whose common names include Wild Carrot and Bishop’s Lace. The feathery umbels eventually close upon their precious seeds, protecting them from weather and wind, but they often attach to the fur of passing animals, successfully dispersing the seeds and making this plant nearly impossible to eradicate. This tenacious 'weed' seen along country roads is known in North America by another familiar name – Queen Anne's Lace.

Carrot Seed oil is also a friend of the natural perfumer who will find that it blends well with chypres, fougères, woody/resinous oils such as Frankincense and Cedarwood as well as citrus and spice oils. Rhind even mentions a little known blending trick: the combination of Carrot Seed and Cedarwood oils mimics the scent of the very costly Orris Butter!1 It is also found in trace amounts in Oriental, fantasy and modern aldehydic perfume types.2 Please note that Carrot Seed has an extremely intense aroma and can easily overpower a perfume, so dilute well if working with small-quantity perfume formulas.

Carrot Seed essential oil is popularly added to facial masks and to preparations for mature skin – a sensible choice since carotol, the dominant sesquiterpene alcohol, is a multi-purpose constituent that is well-suited to skincare applications.

I ordered a sample of this quite a while ago, it's absolutely incredible, smells like a new carpet, but very vibrant and invigorating.

I definitely look forward to using this in my formulae.

Softer than expected - a delight for the senses. Review by

This is a very delicate, beautiful oil which imparts a gentle aroma into any blend. I do not find it anywhere near as intense as carrot seed absolute, which means I can use this oil much more freely. It is lighter and softer than I had expected, with a touch of floral, vegetal, spicy, and earthy nuances.

Carrot seed is an unusual note in perfumery but a beautiful one nonetheless. It smells amazing when combined with a sweet clover, oakmoss, and sage or styrax, neroli, and rose. I find myself reaching for the absolute version more often when working with perfume, but this steam distilled oil is PERFECT for delicate scents, facial care recipes, and aromatherapy. It’s gentle enough to work well with most skin types, but strong enough to be effective. I can’t wait for Eden Botanicals to bring in sandalwood nut oil, as I believe it will be a perfect counterpart to their carrot seed oil. Both have done wonders for my skin, and I’m thrilled with the quality.

Thank you for sourcing such beautiful oils and specialty ingredients! I don’t see carrot seed oil being used often enough in my industry, which is a pity, as this is a particularly lovely one.

Spicy, earthy, and rose-like qualities. Review by

Straight out of the bottle, the scent is sharp & spicy...it smells like a mixture of roman chamomile and rose otto. If you were ever in a pinch and needed chamomile or rose otto for a perfume, this would be an okay substitute. I wasn't expecting the rose-like qualities, but looking at the GCMS results in the COA (thank you Eden for providing these!), there's geraniol, and traces of some other constituents typically present in rose otto.

I recommend smelling this oil on a test strip, where the scent really blooms. The dry-down is quite nice—the initial spicy pungent notes tone down leaving a spicy floral & earthy patchouli-like qualities.

Best Carrot Seed Oil Review by

This is hands down the best carrot seed oil I have ever tried. I have been applying this to my skin neat for itchy summer skin, and it is helping a lot. It is also the best smelling carrot seed oil, at first it goes on with an earthy, spicy, carroty vitamin smelling tenacity, and within minutes mellows out and gets smoother and almost floral, with a geranium like finish. I just ordered a big bottle, and I am looking forward to using this in my skincare regime.

I have always heard about the amazing properties of this oil for the skin and I decided to buy it from Eden Botanicals to use it with Frankincense oil so that I can make my own rejuvenating and anti-aging face serum.

I love my face serum and I also made some for my sister to try.

if you don't like mixing oils, you can also add few drops of this oil to your usual face cream to have a wonderful anti aging cream.
